VF in Diplomatic Crisis!

TOMDON, U.F.J (Siemon), THE VERSUTIAN GOVERNMENT found itself in disarray last night, scrambling to contain an unusual diplomatic crisis after its recent recruitment drive into Game Created Regions (GCRs).

After a mass recruitment telegram was sent to nations in the region of [region]Osiris[/region], [nation]Cormac A Stark[/nation] reacted angrily, returning a stormy recruitment telegram to the Versutian Federation loudly proclaiming the "benefits you're not seeing in [the Versutian Federation]".

The telegram, which reached 85 members of the Versutian Federation, caused considerable consternation in the Versutian government. A senior source insisted "Osiris is a GCR - it was made to be recruited from. This is very underhanded."

The telegram slammed the President of the Versutian Federation, [nation]ErasmoGnome[/nation], whom Osiris claimed was "indiscriminately [recruiting] the entire populations of several GCRs - including Osiris", stating their belief that "hard work and innovation should pay off for both older and newer players and regions, not simply the size of their bank accounts."

The Versutian Federation is a signatory to the Arnhelm Declaration, which prohibits recruitment between User Created Regions (UCRs), however no such declaration exists in relation to recruitment between GCRs and UCRs.

"It is highly irregular for a GCR to attempt to recruit from a UCR such as ours," said our source.

Osiris does not permit recruiting on either its Regional Message Board or its Internet Relay Chat service, but no such representations are made about recruiting via telegram.

The Osiran delegate, [nation]Detective Figs[/nation] finds herself in a weak position, having been hæmorrhaging endorsements since a coup a month ago. One possible explanation for the tight security policy is that the Osiran government does not wish to lose WA members who may otherwise have endorsed Detective Figs.

The Versutian Government swung into action to advise member Nations how to change their policies on receiving such telegrams, describing such missives as "spam".

A VERY STRANGE reaction from the Osiran nation to a very ordinary event in international diplomacy. The furore prompted the Founder of the Versutian Federation, [nation]Divair[/nation], to issue a region-wide telegram saying "You'll have noticed Osiris is a bit angry at our government ... because I donated 20,000 stamps to help our region and community grow and thrive," clarifying that "we haven't targeted any private regions that have signed Arnhelm."

The reaction by the Osiran government could best be described as bizarre. The telegram suggests that "large sums of money" were spent in the pursuit of recruitment. Maybe to a socialist region such as Osiris - which suffers under chronically high rates of unemployment - the pocket change spent recruiting from their region is a "large sum". We suspect this exaggeration is merely the politically-motivated rantings of a deeply inexperienced diplomat.

At any rate, the 'retort' telegram used precisely the same system of telegram stamps to attempt to recruit in return. Not only inexperienced, but hypocritical, then.

If "Cormac A Stark" wishes to engage in petty battles of regional diplomacy, he should do so from a UCR. ||
